scouting reports. You have to be on the same page
as a team defensively if you want to be successful."
Evans' senior year has gotten off to an adventuresome start, especially from the free throw line,
where he's shooting around 40 percent. That's
just basketball, he reiterated. Despite the slump,
he's still confident in his stroke. Last season, he
shot 81 percent (43 of 53) from the stripe in Big
Ten games.
A year ago, Evans was just one of seven players to rank among the Big Ten's top 25 in scoring,
rebounding and blocked shots. In fact, he's the
leading returning rebounder in the conference.
Through the first 13 games of this season, he had
three double-doubles against Cornell, NebraskaOmaha and Samford.
"My role," Evans said, "is to show the younger
guys that we're still moving forward even through
the ups and downs that we've had and the bumps
that we've taken. They have to understand that we
have a solid chance to win every time we're on the
floor."
There's no magic formula, either. You could say
it's purely academic.
"At the end of the day, it's about being persistent
and consistent," said Evans, adding rhyme to reason. "That's what is going to get you to where you
need to be. This program has done that traditionally over the years. And that's exactly how we're
going to do it again this year."
