Seniors carry UW in conference opener
I
f there are two things Wisconsin knows how to do,
it's win at home and win Big
Ten openers.
The Badgers' 60-51 victory over Penn State on
Thursday night at the Kohl
Center marked UW's 10thconsecutive win in a conference opener. Wisconsin
joins Kansas and Gonzaga as
the only other schools in the
country to accomplish the
feat.
The trio of Jared Berggren,
Ryan Evans and Mike Bruesewitz did most of the heavy
lifting in the win, as the senior frontcourt combined
for 63 percent of UW's point
total and 20 of the team's 32
rebounds on the night.

Junior Ben Brust joined
Berggren and Evans with a
team-best 13 points apiece,
but it was a pair of rim-rattling dunks from Berggren
that nearly took the roof off
of the Kohl Center and ultimately sealed the game.
Despite a 15-2 run by the
Badgers to end the first half
and an 11-point advantage
heading into the break, Penn
State did not flinch.
The Nittany Lions cut
UW's lead to one with less
than 3 minutes remaining,
but an 11-2 run by the Badgers, including a highlight
reel slam from Berggren,
sent Penn State home with
its 16th-straight loss at the
Kohl Center.
