Greater Grand Junction Sports
Commission brings two new national
events to the Grand Valley
The spring and summer of 2017 will mark the
inaugural year for a couple exciting events in the
Grand Valley. From April 27-30, Grand Junction will
host the USA Cycling Collegiate and Para Road
Cycling National Championships for the first year
of a two-year event cycle. This event will feature
approximately 300 of the nation's top college riders,
and another 150 para cyclists competing in a road
race, time trial and criterium. Para riders, some of
whom participated in the 2016 Paralympic Games
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, consist of a number of
categories including hand-cycles, tandems and trikes.
In late June the Train to Hunt regional qualifier will
descend upon Powderhorn Mountain Resort. This
event brings elite athletes, who are top-level archery
marksmen and women, to compete for their spot
in the Train to Hunt National Championship, to be
held back at Powderhorn July 8-9. The national
championship will bring more than 100 athletes, who
represent the best of Train to Hunt regional qualifiers
from around the country, to the Grand Valley. The
Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission and
Powderhorn Mountain Resort are partnering with
Train to Hunt to establish the Grand Valley as the
home of Train to Hunt Nationals in the future.
