They are: G. Cheng Guang Cheng (statis- tics) — investigating two classes of bootstrap methods in semi-non- parametric models for quicker and more efficient analysis of massive data sets. D. Gleich David Gleich (computer science) — investigating modern numerical matrix methods for network and graph computations in order to turn complex raw data into meaningful information. J. Neville Jennifer Neville (computer science, statistics) — studying the mechanisms that influence the perfor- mance of network analysis methods and driving the development of novel methods for complex network domains in areas such as psychology, com- munications, education and political science. X. Tricoche Xavier Tricoche (computer science) — pioneering a comprehensive approach for the efficient visual analysis of large-scale datasets in the context of multidisciplinary collaborations spanning fluid dynamics, materials engineering, high-energy physics and cardiovascular research. J. Figueroa-Lopez Jose Figueroa-Lopez (statistics) — identifying some key open problems of Levy processes in statistical analysis and connecting them to para- metric estimation and change-point detection for Levy models. M. Kulkarni Milind Kulkarni (electri- cal and computer engineer- ing) — exploring how to turn a simple expression of an algorithm into a higher performing version for irregular programs in areas such as data mining and computational biology. Xiulin Ruan (mechanical engineering) — enabling the prediction of thermal conductive and radiative properties of solids from first principles. X. Ruan A. Wasserman Adam Wasserman (chemistry) — develop- ing and applying elec- tronic-structure methods that extend the reach of quantum-chemical approaches based on Density Functional Theory. The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program supports junior faculty members who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.
