Colorado Mesa's campus
expands westward with
latest groundbreaking
For the first time, Colorado Mesa's campus is
expanding to Seventh Street with the addition of an
engineering building. A groundbreaking ceremony
was held September 6 where university officials were
joined by representatives from the John McConnell
Math & Science Center. New Emerson Elementary
students also performed an experiment for the crowd.
The new 68,700 square-foot building will house
CMU's engineering programs, including civil and
mechanical, delivered through a partnership with
the University of Colorado Boulder. The building
will also be the newest home for the math and
science center, the non-profit bringing science
education to preschoolers and elementary students.
Construction of the $25.4 million building will be
completed fall 2017.
CMU President Tim Foster said the new building will
be a visible symbol of the importance CMU places
on partnerships and collaboration.
