Like defensive players for the Heis- Badger trio nominated for Patty Kazmaier UW nominees stand out among nation's best T hree Badgers were named nominees for this year's Patty Kazmaier Memo- rial Award on Monday. Two of the nominees, Brianna Decker and Hilary Knight, were both top-10 fi- nalists for the award last year — with teammate Meghan Duggan eventually taking home the award. 60 » VARSITY FEBRUARY 23, 2012 In just her sophomore sea- son, Alex Rigsby makes her debut on the prospective list this year. All three candidates boast strong resumes to support their candidacy for women's hockey's most prestigious award. Decker is in the nation's top three for almost every man, goaltenders have had a difficult time winning the Patty Kaz. Along with Rigsby, three other goalies have been nominated. However, Rigsby has played more minutes than any of the others and still leads the nation in save percentage, as well as ranking second in both total saves and goals- against average. Last but definitely not least, Knight rounds out the three nomi- nees for Wisconsin. With Knight on the roster, UW has posted a 129-16-12 record, with nine of those losses com- ing in her freshman year. She has proven throughout her career she is capable of helping her team win against the best competition in the nation and in important games during the postseason. TBD TBD W, 7-1 L, 4-2 Minnesota State 7 p.m.
