Carolina Basketball 2011-12 JONAS SAHRATIAN Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Well established as one of the top strength & conditioning coordinators in the college game, Jonas Sahratian (pronounced suh-RAY-shun) enters his eighth season with the Tar Heel men's basketball program. He also served in the same capacity at the University of Kansas for five seasons. Sahratian coordinates strength and conditioning for men's basketball and also works with the diving team. He has been a part of three Final Fours and NCAA championships in 2005 and 2009 at Carolina. He worked with Carolina head coach Roy Williams at Kansas from January 1999 to April 2003. He also coordinated strength and conditioning for the volleyball, swimming and diving teams at Kansas and assisted with football from 1999-2001. A native of Detroit, Mich., Sahratian graduated from Western Michigan University in 1997 with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science. In 2000 he received his master's in exercise physiology from Kansas. In addition to working with Kansas athletics, Sahratian interned for two years at the Chicago Bulls/Vermeil's Sports and Fitness in Deerfield, Ill. He worked in Chicago during the Bulls' championship seasons in 1996-97 and 1997-98. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified club coach through USA Weightlifting. Sahratian and his wife, Grechen, have a daughter, Natalie, born in March 2010. Jeffrey Camarati CHRIS HIRTH BASKETBALL STAFF ERIC HOOTS Head Athletic Trainer Chris Hirth is in his fourth season as the head athletic trainer for men's basketball at UNC and his 16th year overall working in the Carolina athletic department. In addition to his duties with the basketball team, Hirth is the supervising staff athletic trainer for the UNC swimming and diving teams, supervisor of the Smith Center athletic training room and a guest lecturer in the Exercise and Sport Science Department. He is also a staff physical therapist with Carolina's Campus Health Services. In his tenure at UNC, Hirth has worked with the men's soccer, gymnastics, women's lacrosse and track and field squads. He was the athletic trainer for the 2001 Tar Heel men's soccer team that won the NCAA championship. Hirth earned his BS in physical therapy from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in 1989 and a MS in human movement science from UNC in 1994. Hirth is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. He has a PES and CES through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Hirth is a native of Milwaukee, Wis. He and his wife Anna, have a son, Blake. Director of Player Relations Video Coordinator Eric Hoots is in his eighth season as video coordinator and director of player relations in the UNC Basketball office. His duties include serving as a primary contact for former Tar Heel players, taping games and practices and supervising day-to-day video needs. Hoots, a 2004 UNC graduate with a degree in African-American Studies and Interpersonal Communications, was a three-year Tar Heel letterman as a varsity manager from 2001-04. He served as head manager as a senior in Roy Williams' first season as the head coach in Chapel Hill. A native of Newton, N.C., Hoots attended Bandys High School in Catawba, where he played two years of varsity basketball. Hoots earned his Master's in Sports Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010. In 2009, he married the former Amy Howe, who works for the Rams Club and Tar Heel Monthly magazine.
