Carolina Basketball 2011-12 JOE HOLLADAY THE HOLLADAY FILE • In his third year as director of operations after 16 years as an assistant coach under Roy Williams • Is in his 19th year as a member of Williams' staff • Has been named one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation among assistant coaches • Born: September 14, 1947 • Education: Oklahoma, 1969; East Central State, 1975 (Master's) • Playing experience: Oklahoma (1966-69) • Previous head coaching experience: Jenks (Okla.) HS, 13 seasons; also served as a prep head coach in the Oklahoma towns of Bartlesville, Tulsa and Lindsay • Previous assistant coaching experience: Kansas (1993-2003); North Carolina (2004-09) • Family: Wife - Roi; Has a daughter, Heather, and a son, Mathew. Has a grandson, Boston, born in April 2009. Robert Crawford One of the nation's most experienced college basketball minds, Joe Holladay is in his ninth season with the Tar Heels and his 19th as a member of Roy Williams' coaching staff. Holladay is in his third season as Director of Basketball Operations after 16 years as an assistant coach. Holladay's duties include a number of behind-the-scenes and operational duties, and he oversees the team's academic progress. Holladay has worked closely over the years with the Tar Heel big men. Under Holladay's tutelage, Tyler Hansbrough and Sean May have earned national player-of- the-year honors. Eighteen of Holladay's players have been selected in the first round of the NBA Draft and he helped recruit future first-round picks Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington. He has coached 28 first-team academic all-conference honorees in the last 15 years. Holladay joined Williams at the University of Kansas prior to the 1993-94 season after 23 years as a high school coach, teacher and administrator. A 1969 University of Oklahoma graduate with a degree in history, Holladay was a standout guard for the Sooners from 1966-69. As a senior he served as team captain. Holladay earned a master's degree in counseling in 1975 from East Central State University in Oklahoma. He went to Kansas after working 13 years as head coach and eight years as athletics director at Jenks (Okla.) High School. Holladay previously served as a prep coach in the Oklahoma towns of Norman, Bart-lesville, Tulsa, and Lindsay. In 1998 Holladay was inducted into the Oklahoma High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and in 2002 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Holladay was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the Major League Baseball Draft. He and his wife, Roi, have a daughter, Heather, who is married to David Vigil. The couple's son, Boston Vigil, was born in 2009. The Holladays' son, Mathew, is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School who works for Bank of America.
