Charlotte CHRIS Volleyball S REDDING (SUNY-Cortland, 1990) HEAD COACH 5th Season Chris Redding is in his fifth season at the helm of the Charlotte 49ers in 2011. The 2010 edition of Charlotte volleyball made it two appearances in a row in the the Atlantic 10 Tournament and the first winning record since 2007. In 2008, Charlotte won three of its last five matches, finishing with 12 wins. Carly Romberg was Libero of the Year for the second straight season. In 2007, Redding became only the third coach in program history to record a winning season in a first year with the 49ers. Also a champion of the work in the classroom, Charlotte was honored for its academic progress rate in 2008 and 2009. Redding arrived in Charlotte after four seasons as an assistant with the University of Alabama, which made its only two NCAA Tournament ap- pearances previous in his final two seasons there. Prior to his time with the Crimson Tide, Redding was the head coach of Appalachian State University from 1999 to 2003, appearing in the Southern Conference tournament three of his four seasons at the helm. Redding has 18 years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience and has been an assistant at the University of Florida, the University of North Florida, the University of the Pacific and Cal State Bakersfield. Redding is no stranger to the National Tournament scene. He has been on staff with teams making six NCAA Div.ision I tournament appearances, including a Final Four team with Florida in 1998. At the Division II level, Redding was on the staff of two-time National Runner-Up, Cal-State Bakersfield. On the club level, Redding has di- rected the 18-and-under division of the Jacksonville Juniors and was co-director of the Appalachian Avalanche. He has also coached at the club level with the 17-and- under Gainesville Junior Club and the 18 and 16 Elite Teams at the Kern River Volleyball Club. Redding graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1990 with a degree in Health Education. He is married to the former Nikki Schmidt of Nashville, Tenn.
