107 VHSL/www.vhsl.org V I R G I N I A H I G H S C H O O L L E A G U E A three-sport standout in football, baseball and bas- ketball at Jefferson Forest from 1991-94, Anthony Poindexter was the 1993 AP Group AA Player of the Year as a senior and earned first-team all-state selection as a junior and senior while guiding the Cavaliers to back-to-back Division 3 football champi- onships as a quarterback and safety. In addition, he twice earned first-team all- district and all-region hon- ors and was selected to play in the VHSCA all-star football game where he was named the Defensive Player of the Game. A four-year starter in base- ball as a centerfielder, he earned first-team all-dis- trict, all-region and first- team all-state honors while leading the Cava- liers to the state semifinals in 1993; and as a three- year starter on the basket- ball team, he earned first-team all-district and honorable mention all-re- gion honors as well. He earned all-American hon- ors as a safety at the Uni- versity of Virginia. Anthony Poindexter Athlete-Football, Baseball, Basketball Jefferson Forest As the head boys soccer coach at E.C. Glass from 1981-2008, Chip Berry guided his teams to a 307- 129-28 record, 12 district titles; 21 regional playoff appearances; including three region runner-up fin- ishes; three rounds of six- teen and three final eights. He was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as Virginia's Coach of the Year in 2006; and twice by the VHSCA in 2003 and 2007. He was also se- lected district coach of the year 11 times and the News and Advance Soc- cer Coach of the Year in Central Virginia six times. In 2007, his team set a school record with 16 con- secutive games without a loss. Berry began coach- ing and teaching at E.C. Glass in 1978 and during that time coached 59 high school teams including assistant boys varsity soc- cer; head boys varsity soccer; boys varsity assis- tant basketball; head boys JV basketball; co-head varsity girls volleyball; and has been the athletic di- rector since 2005. Glass Second among active boys basketball coaches in the VHSL with 657 ca- reer wins, George Lan- caster, Jr. came to Highland Springs in 1979 and has left a legacy that includes two state titles in 2003 and 2007; 26 district championships and 28 district tournament titles. He was honored as state coach of the year twice in 2003 and 2007 and was named district coach of the year 15 times along with region coach of the year four times. In addi- tion to coaching boys bas- ketball at Highland Springs, he has served as a head coach for girls bas- ketball (1979-80 and 1987-89); head girls track coach (1981-84) and head golf coach (1990-99). Lan- caster, who began his teaching and coaching ca- reer at Huguenot in 1972, assisted in football, track, basketball and baseball before becoming head boys basketball coach in 1976. He came to High- land Springs in 1979 as both boys and girls head basketball coach. George Lancaster, Jr. Coach-Boys Basketball Highland Springs Jim Woodson has led Powhatan to two VHSL state football champi- onships, claiming a Divi- sion 2 title in 1996 and a Division 4 title in 2003. During his 28 years as the head coach, his Powhatan teams have compiled a 246-80-1 record; won 15 district championships; eight regional champi- onships; played in four state title games and had two state runner-up fin- ishes in 1997 and 2003. Twice, in 1996 and 2003, he was selected state coach of the year; as well as Richmond all-Metro coach of the year five times (1991, 1996, 1997, 2003 and 2005). He was also selected to coach in the Virginia High School Coaches Association (VHSCA) all-star game five times. Woodson has served as athletic director at Powhatan since 1999. Woodson first came to Powhatan in 1979 and has coached JV football; as- sistant varsity football; JV boys basketball; varsity boys basketball and assis- tant varsity boys basket- ball.
