58 // VARSITY February 13, 2014 INSIDE TENNIS Undefeated home records on the line this weekend UW men and women both host pair of matches BY PATRICK HERB // @BADGERWTENNIS @BADGERMTENNIS T hrough the first few weeks of the 2014 sea- son, the Wisconsin men's and women's tennis teams have more in common than simply the W emblazoned on their shirts; both are off the undefeated starts at home and gaining momentum in the pro- cess. The unblemished home marks will be put to the test this weekend as both the men (3-2 overall, 3-0 at home) and women (3-0 overall, 2-0 at home) host a pair of challeng- ing matches at Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over 70th-ranked Tulane their last time out, the Badgers (now ranked 70th) will square off with their fourth ranked opponent of the season when No. 42 Drake comes to town. Head coach Greg Van Em- burgh and the Badgers are 2-2 all-time against the Bulldogs but will be looking to avenge last season's 4-0 setback at Drake. Saturday's match with Drake is sched- uled to begin at 2 p.m., with Sunday's contest against SMU starting at noon. Both matches are free to the public. • • • • On the women's side, the Tina Samara era is off to a perfect start, but that has by no means equaled satisfaction. "You can't be mad at 3-0, but I'm also not happy at 3-0," Samara explained. "We always want to improve and aim to be competitive against at the highest level." After consecutive wins over Mar- quette, Northern Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin will step up the competition when it welcomes No. 63 Louisville and Dartmouth to Nielsen this weekend. The Cardinals finished fourth in the Big East a year ago with a record of 17- 9. That included a 7-0 sweep of the Bad- gers in Louisville. UW is also looking for retribution against Dartmouth after falling 6-1 last season in Hanover, N.H. Friday's match with Louisville is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. with first serve against Dartmouth set to precede the men's match at 10 a.m. on Sunday. As always, both matches are free. SCHEDULE COMING UP: MEN Feb. 15 #42 Drake 2 p.m. Feb. 16 SMU Noon COMING UP: WOMEN Feb. 14 #63 Louisville 2 p.m. Feb. 16 Dartmouth 10 a.m.
