Journal ALUMNI Class Notes REMEMBERING OUR FRIENDS RuthEne Swart '60 died March 6, 2013, in Austin, Texas. She was the Jackie Sanders Dahlin '72 died July 22, 2013. She was a registered nurse. daughter of the Rev. George William '29 and Ruth (Long) '29 Swart. She is survived by her husband, Hans, and two daughters, Angela and Hollie. R. Daniel "Dan" Sumner BA '68 died April 17, 2013. He is survived by his The Rev. David Keith Lynch BTh '57 died July 22,2013. Sumner, and Julia Sumner Eppley; three grandchildren; three siblings; and his mother, Anna Hooper Fall. Wilber B. Hatch BA '51 died July 14, 2013. He attended both the undergraduate and School of Theology at AU. He met Fay Benefield '52 while a student at Anderson, and they married Jan. 6, 1953. Together, they served congregations in Florida and Alabama. Wilbur is survived by his wife; three daughters, Diane (Hatch) Reed AA, BA '79, Darlene (Hatch) Wahaus BA '80, and Denyce (Hatch) Webb AA, BA '85; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Hatch BA '53, DD '95. The Rev. Edward C. Schweikert BA '54 died July 15, 2013. Edward joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII, earning two Battle Stars. He married Leona Ruth Swart on August 12, 1950. He pursued graduate work at Michigan State University. He held pastorates in Ohio and Michigan and served as a missionary to Australia from 1963-1968. He founded the First Church of God Academy in 1984. He is survived by his wife, Leona Ruth Schweikert; two children, Stephen Edward Schweikert and Sylver Lyn Schweikert BA '00; six grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stillborn baby daughter, Aseneth Lavonne Schweikert. ANDERSON UNIVERSITY Alumni Quarterly, Winter 2014 his seminary work in California. During his ministry, he pastored congregations in Illinois, Ohio, California, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. He served in national Church of God leadership roles as president of the executive council and president of the leadership council. After his retirement, he worked for Bill Gaither assisting and ministering to families. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda; two daughters, Pamela Bowen and Melody Davis; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judith Moder. The Rev. James B. Chapman MDiv '59 died July 25, 2013. He was a minister in the Church of God and was a successful businessman. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Fran Chapman, Patty Clark, Lisa Cerha, Tom Riccio; siblings, Janie Viers, Peggy Martin, and Isaac Chapman; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Thomas E. Smith BA '57 died Aug. 2, 2013. He met his wife, Norma Englund '56, while attending AU. They married June 12, 1954. He was a pastor and missionary for more than 60 years, serving across the United States and in Egypt. He is survived by his wife; three children, Kristy (Smith) Hemmele BA '83, Kim Livingston, and Randy Smith '90; four grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Smith BS '53 and Dr. Douglas Smith BA '62. Bill N. "Vasso" Ameredes BS '51 died Aug. 5, 2013. He served in the United States Navy from 1945-47. He earned his master's degree in education from Ball State University in 1954. He was a teacher, counselor, and coach for nearly 40 years. He was inducted in the Anderson University Athletic Hall of page 17
