Journal Class Notes ALUMNI 95 Matt Kutz BA received a Fulbright Scholarship to live and teach at the Kigali Health Institute in Rwanda. Matt, his wife, and two sons lived in Kigali for six months. Matt also has a new book titled Contextual Intelligence: Smart Leadership for a Constantly Changing World. The book is a finalist for the 2013 Outstanding Leadership Book Award given by the University of San Diego School of Leadership Studies. 97 Chris Gilbert writes, "I am so blessed to have such a wonderful and amazing wife and 4-year-old girl! My wife, Nicole, works full time for the Harris County Hospital District and is going to school at night to finish her master's degree. I have been at RCI since 2006, where we still see record growth in the new construction industry." Lesley (Weaver) Hoyman BSN and her husband, Jim, have moved to Wheaton, Ill. Jim is the professor of military science and head of the ROTC program at Wheaton College. The couple welcomed their first son, Hudson Mead, into their family in September 2012. His sisters, Mikah, Paige, and Shayne, have been wonderful helpers in taking care of their baby brother. 98 Timothy Ponce' BA and Jennifer Ponce' BSN have relocated to Frankfurt, Germany, where Tim is the consular officer for the U.S. Department of State. He is a resource of support and expertise for the region he is covering, including countries in Europe and Africa. The family will be posted in Frankfurt for three years. Andrea (Spangler) Schumacher BA writes that her family of five is in the process of adopting two children from the Dominican Republic. ANDERSON UNIVERSITY Alumni Quarterly, Winter 2014 99 Andrea (Rawlings) Johnson BA and her husband, Joel, welcomed a son, Jonathan David Immanuel, into their family. Andrea writes, "He was received with great enthusiasm by his big sister, Marisa." 01 Ben Risinger BA is the new media and community relations specialist at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ben received his master's degree in public relations management from IUPUI this year. He has been named as one of the top 100 public relations professionals in the United States working social media. 02 Melanie Porter BA is pursuing a PhD in nonprofit management and leadership at the School of Public Service. She hopes to build a nonprofit to serve as a resource to families of foster and adoptive children. She is accepting donations, encouragement, prayers, and votes of confidence. Anna (Soucie) Warner BA was married in October 2012. 03 Carissa Newton MBA shared several accomplishments she has made since earning her MBA at AU: increased leadflow by over 150% and ROI by over 110% at multiple companies; received BMA Circle Awards for integrated marketing campaigns; contributed marketing efforts to one company that led to growth by over 300% year-over-year; helped three companies secure nominations and win awards for Inc 500/5000, Indiana Companies to Watch, Indiana Best Places to Work, and Techpoint Mira Awards; participated on a leadership team that secured Series A/B Rounds of multimillion dollar venture capital investment for start-up technology firm; and has been a frequent industry speaker and author representing her firm with marketing and business management expertise. "My MBA from Anderson prepared me to not only lead the marketing efforts with these firms, but also contribute and deliver strong results across the company," Carissa writes. Wendy Sohn BA is a manager of finance reporting to humanitarian services with the American Red Cross. 04 Michael Clark BA is living in Chicago and teaching social studies at Saint Benedict High School. Shanta (Wesaw) Clark BA is attending Northwestern University's physician assistant program. Maryann (Koopman) Kelly BA and her husband, Frank, announce the birth of their son, Shea Patrick, on March 15, 2013, in Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland. Shea joins his sister, Evelyn, who was born in December 2009. The family recently moved back to the United States and has settled in Indianapolis. page 14
