Tarun Malik, Ed.D.
Vice President and
Dean of Academic Affairs
As a JWU alumnus, Tarun Malik, Ed.D.,
believes it's important to emphasize
"creating a student-centered learning
culture with the right balance of
challenge and support." Malik works with
academic leaders on campus to strive for
excellence in the classroom.
"Our collective goal is to graduate
students with relevant disciplinary
knowledge, good communication
skills, the ability to solve problems and
adapt to a rapidly changing business
environment," he said.
Malik's career at JWU began as an
instructor in The Hospitality College at
the Providence Campus and continued
as the dean of academic affairs at the
Charleston Campus. He is a graduate
of Delhi University in India and earned
a master's degree in hospitality
administration and a doctoral degree in
educational leadership from JWU.
Charlotte
Campus
Celebrates its
10-Year
Anniversary
It started with a phone
call in late 2001. Jim
Palermo, executive vice
president of Bank of
America, called then
JWU President Jack
Yena to see if Johnson
& Wales University was
interested in opening
a campus in Charlotte.
Palermo, representing
Charlotte Center City
Partners, private business leaders and elected
government officials, had been looking to find a
college or university to help improve the quality
of life in Uptown.
When JWU opened its doors to the first
graduating class in 2004, there were 1,016
students. Today the Charlotte Campus has built
enrollment to more than 2,400 students from 18
foreign countries and 47 states.
