New Faculty Class is Diverse and Distinguished Faculty on the Move: Promotions Dean Midha woos academic stars to college's faculty » ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR This fall, the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences welcomed 20 new assistant professors as well as Dr. James McManus, a professor and the new chair of the Department of Geosciences. This faculty class of fall 2013 is a diverse group with a wide range of scholarly interests – from the study of black musicians in Nazi Germany to the implications of cellular fluorescence imaging. They're also interesting people outside of the classroom. A historian is also an honored classical pianist; another newcomer was a Google Summer of Code Recipient. One economist is a rare female graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and an expert parachutist. An assistant professor of modern languages speaks "spicy" – he won four consecutive salsa-cooking contests. And a new assistant professor of psychology enhanced her education at Loyola of Chicago with close study of "General Hospital" of Port Charles, the fictional TV home of neurotic soap opera characters. This new BCAS faculty promises enriching experiences for students and synergistic collaborations for colleagues. We could go on and on about them – they're that amazing – but we needed to save space for this faculty class photo, taken in September on the steps of Guzzetta Hall.
