Journal Alumni Class Notes REMEMBERING OUR FRIENDS continued James G. "Jim" Bridges, Sr., '40 died Dec. 11, 2012, in Anderson from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Jim grew up in Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked at J.C. Penney, East Side Dairy, Delco Remy, and then as a clerk and a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 39 years before retiring in 1982. After retirement, he worked part-time at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and the Executive Offices of the Church of God. He attended Park Place Church of God. He is survived by his three children, James G. Bridges, Jr., BA '70, Janice K. (Bridges) Gaunt BA '70, and Jerrold Lee Bridges BS '73; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johanna (Kirkegaard) Bridges. Savas Joannides SOT '59 died Jan. 7, 2013, in Anderson, Ind., following an extended illness. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He did his undergraduate work at Warner Pacific College and Lewis and Clark College, earning a bachelor's degree from each school. He received a master's degree in counseling from Ball State University. He married Olive M. Fiscus BA '54 on Aug. 17, 1958. He was a member of Park Place Church of God. In addition to his wife, Savas is survived by two daughters, Joy Lynn (Joannides) McKay BA '83 and Jan Lee Joannides BA '87; four grandchildren; a sister, Polly Kourouniotis; and several nieces and nephews. Thomas Michael Horevay '74 died Jan. 9, 2013, in Ganado, Arizona. Thomas was a teacher at Ganado High School. He is survived by his wife, Karen; two sons, Jonathan and Benjamin; a daughter, Joanna; two sisters, Susan Horevay and Jeanie Downs. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Cerbus) Horevay, and a son, Elijah. The Rev. Paul Charles Hutchins MA '73 died Jan. 12, 2013. He earned a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from Warner Pacific College and a second MA from Fuller Theological Seminary. He spent 16 years in pastoral ministry, interspersed with 18 years of mission service in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and later in East Africa, living in Kenya but ministering also in Uganda, Tanzania, and the Congo. For eight years he served on the National Mission Board of the Church of God, including a year as vice president and three years as president which included travel to Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Following the years in East Africa, he returned home to begin an eighteen-year period of outreach to International Students in the United States. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nova Peterson Hutchins; two daughters, Cynthia (Hutchins) Hall BA '79 and Dr. Lynnova (Hutchins) Reynolds BA '88; a son, Ronald Hutchins; four grandsons; a sister, Virginia Lester; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three older brothers, Bill, Norwood, and Jim, as well as his oldest daughter, Gayle Hutchins-Gossett BA '76. The Rev. Jerry Mac Brandon BA '57, MDiv '60 died Jan. 25, 2013, in Chesterfield, Ind., after an extended illness. Jerry pastored congregations at Crossett, Ark.; Athens, Ala.; Eaton, Ind.; and Vincennes, Ind. He then worked for The Church of God World Service in Special Projects and Faith Promise for 26 years, retiring in 1999. He attended Park Place Church of God. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Normarie (Elmore) Brandon '55, AA '88; two sons, Jeff Brandon BA '81 and Barry Brandon BA '88; a daughter, Melanie (Brandon) Hicks '88; two brothers, Asa Lee Brandon and Don Brandon BS '63; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary.
