Journal Alumni Class Notes REMEMBERING OUR FRIENDS Evelyn A. Gaulke BS '47 died Nov. 21, 2009. She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda L. Wootan '71; a son, Eric Dean Williamson; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a brother, Keith Kissinger. Ethan Scott Boggs '12 died Oct. 1, 2012, from injuries suffered in a traffic accident near Wis., where he also served as the former wrestling and football coach. He met his future wife, Nancy Menchinger BA '66, during his first few days as a student at AU. After graduation, they served in the Peace Corps in Tunisia, North Africa. Upon their return, they settled in Racine. In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by two sons, Matt Case and Jason Case; three grandchildren; a sister, Julianne (Case) Fletcher '66; a brother, David Case '66; and several nieces and nephews. his home in Union County, Ind. The 20 year old graduated from Union County High School where he was recognized with having thirteen years of perfect attendance. Ethan continued his education at Anderson University for two years and had recently transferred to Indiana University-East in Richmond. He played football for all four years of high school and one year at AU. At the time of his death, Ethan was working two jobs at Pizza King in Liberty and at the Quakertown Marina. He was a member of Hanna's Creek Christian Church. Ethan is survived by his parents, Barry and Stefanie Boggs; two siblings, Logan Boggs and Kathryn Boggs; his paternal grandfather, Larry Boggs; his maternal grandparents, Anita and George Scott; and his girlfriend, Larissa Stephen. Ethan was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sandra Boggs. Indianapolis Public Schools for 12 years. As a young man he spent his summers as a youth counselor for Kingdom Works in Philadelphia and Spring Hill in Michigan. He is survived by his parents, Dale and Lou Ann (Eckelbarger) Pennington BA '72, his wife, Sarah Pennington; two young daughters, Zoe and Lily; one brother, Brian Michael Pennington '94; a grandmother, Pearl Pennington; and five nieces and nephews. Corey was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ephert and Lillian Eckelbarger, and paternal grandfather, William Pennington. Nancy Elizabeth (Strunk) Kirby BA '82 died Oct. 5, 2012, after a courageous two- Phyllis Hart Leedom '62 died Nov. 12, 2012, in Anderson, Ind. She retired from the year battle with cancer. She graduated from Anderson High School and received her MA in journalism from Indiana University. During her career as a journalist, Nancy wrote for Anderson Newspapers Inc., Indianapolis Magazine, and several other publications. She taught English and journalism at Anderson University, Ball State University, Indiana University, and for 20 years, at North Central College in Naperville. After leaving North Central College in 2010, she dedicated herself to reviving her writing career and wrote a number of freelance articles for Chicago suburban publications. She is survived by her husband, Richard Kirby; her children, Kara (Kirby) Berkshire, Megan Kirby, and Ryan Kirby; her mother, Betty (Bowen) Strunk BS '57; siblings, Karen Strunk BA '89, Pamela (Strunk) Nicotera BA '84, and John Strunk BA '88; six nieces; one nephew; and one great-niece. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Strunk BS '58; her maternal grandparents, Bert Louis and Nellie May Bowen; and paternal grandparents, Frank and Fay Strunk. Anderson Public Library and was a genealogist with the Madison County Historical Society. In 1996, Phyllis received the Elwood H. Phillips Award for preserving the heritage of Madison County. She married Gerald C. Leedom in 1977. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was a lifelong member of Park Place Church of God. She is survived by her brothers, John Hart Jr. '66, Robert Hart MBA '97, and Charles "Jerry" Hart; two sisters, Diana Molinar '87 and Vivian Hardacre; and 14 nieces and nephews. Paul "Steve" Case BA '66 died Oct. 12, 2012, as the result of a sailing accident after finishing a race as a crewman in the annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race off the Virginia coast. He was a retired French and German teacher at Park High School in Racine, ANDERSON UNIVERSITY Alumni Quarterly, Spring 2013 Corey Scott Pennington BA '97 died Oct. 23, 2012, Corey was a teacher with Deborah Jean (Edmonds) Lusby BA '81 died Dec. 9, 2012, after battling lymphoma. She grew up in Indiana, graduating from East Noble High School. She enjoyed sports and continued to be active in cycling, hiking, kayaking, and running as an adult. She completed a number of marathons over the years. She met her husband, Dean Lusby BA '83, at AU, and they married Dec. 20, 1980. Together they had two boys, Jeremiah and David Tyler. Deb worked at UPS since 1989. Her family attended Mountain Presbyterian Church, often walking the mile and three quarters to church on Sunday mornings. In addition to her husband and two sons, Deb is survived by her parents, Jack and Betty Edmonds; two brothers John Edmonds, David Edmonds, and James Edmonds; and numerous nieces and nephews. page 26
