r. Adolfo Roitman, the Lizbeth
and George Krupp curator
of the Dead Sea Scrolls and head
of the Shrine of the Book, Israel
Museum (Jerusalem), delivered
the 31st Annual Newell Lectures in
Biblical Studies to a packed house at
the new York Performance Hall and
Galleries on the Anderson University
campus. Roitman lectured on "The
Meaning of the Dead Sea Scrolls
for Judaism and Christianity,"
"Jerusalem, The Temple, and the
Qumran Community: A Historical
Seminary Synopsis | Spring 2013
and Sociological Perspective,"
and "Melchizedek in 11
QMelch and the Epistle to the
Hebrews: Shared Traditions and
Original Developments: Biblical
Interpretation and Eschatological
Belief." He also spent time in a Q
& A session about the scrolls with
those in attendance. The lectures

group spiritual direction. With the
sponsorship of the PACT program
at Anderson University and grant
funding from the United Methodist
Church, Dr. Brewer spent time in the
Taize' community in France, living in
a diverse community of persons from
around the world devoted to a vision
of reconciliation and peacemaking.

Hawkins Dean of the
Chapel (mahawkins@
anderson.edu); Professor
of Intercultural Studies,
was on sabbatical during the fall
semester 2012-13. Hawkins led
conferences at the 12th AsiaPacific Church of God Women's
Conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
She also preached and led conferences in Shillong, India for the
Church of God at their worker's
conference. She and her husband
Jim traveled throughout India as a
part of her sabbatical.
