2012 America East Scholar-Athlete
of the Year Emily Roesch
AMERICA EAST ELITE
ACADEMIC
EXCELLENCE
Playing in its final season in the America East before
joining the Patriot League this summer, the reigning league
champion Terriers own a league-high nine tournament
crowns, including three of the last four, with eight regular
season titles. Posting an all-time conference record of
269-93 (.743), BU has also collected four Player of the Year
Awards, four Rookie of the Year Awards and three Pitcher of
the Year Awards during the last eight seasons.
The Terriers pride themselves in not only excelling
on the field but also in the classroom. This past
season, 10 women were placed on the America
East Academic Honor Roll for having a GPA of 3.0
or higher with four of them also receiving NFCA
All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades. Currently
pursuing a master's in public relations, fifth-year
senior Emily Roesch (left) was recently named one
of 30 candidates at the NCAA Division I level for
the 2013 Senior CLASS Award, which is given to a
student-athlete who has notable achievements in
four areas of excellence - community, classroom,
character and competition.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
The team is active in the community, volunteering at SAAC events such
as the annual Holiday Reading Program, the Women's Lunch Place, Special
Olympics, Making Strides for Breast Cancer, College for Every Student,
Athletes for Autism and the Teddy Bear Toss. Last year, Erica Casacci ('12)
served as BU's 2011-12 SAAC President and was later honored with the
Boston University Department of Athletics' Student Service Award.
NATIONAL
RECOGNITION
HEAD COACH
KATHRYN GLEASON
On Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, Boston University
Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike
Lynch announced the hiring of Kathryn Gleason as the
program's sixth head coach. She is quite familiar with
the Terriers, having spent a combined six seasons
at the University of Massachusetts, including the
last two as associate head coach. A co-captain of
Michigan's 1996 Women's College World Series team
and former associate head coach at Michigan State,
she helped the Minutewomen win the 2012 Atlantic
10 title and finish with a 38-13 record.
During her storied four-year career, April Setterlund
(2008-11) demonstrated the success a player at BU
could have at the national level. As the Terriers'
first Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America First Team
honoree, Setterlund ranked in the top 10 in the
nation in batting average, on-base percentage,
slugging percentage and runs per game during her
junior campaign. She was the 11th player in America
East history to receive four All-Conference First Team
accolades while also winning back-to-back Player of
the Year awards in 2010 and 2011.
