IN MARCH 2017, Mackenzie Sullivan, SMD '19, and
Susan Modesitt, MD '95, (above) presented a poster at the
Society of Gynecologic Oncology's 48th Annual Meeting on
Women's Cancer in National Harbor, Maryland.
Sullivan says that financial assistance from the UVA
Medical Alumni Association made it possible for him to
attend the conference and take part in this important
careerbuilding opportunity.
"I've received support through the UVA Medical Alumni
Association's conference reimbursement program for the
past two years. This support has allowed me to attend the
annual meeting of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology to
present the work I do with my mentor, Dr. Susan Modesitt.
Attending these national meetings has provided valuable
presentation experience, networking opportunities, and
ultimately solidified my specialty choice," says Sullivan. "As I
move forward in my training, I'm looking forward to seeing
future generations of UVA medical students at SGO and
giving back through this program as an alumnus."
As his mentor and an alum, Modesitt is grateful that
students have this resource. "I am so proud of Mackenzie's
research and thrilled for the support helping him attend this
meeting to present it," she says.
