Shutout sensation
The Wisconsin women's soccer team was crowned the first Big Ten champion by winning the Big Ten tournament at the McClimon Soccer Complex. The third-seeded Badgers de- feated fifth-seeded Minnesota in the final, 3-0.
November 3, 1917 OPENING CAMP: Camp Randall Stadium hosted its first game, a 10-7 Badgers vic- tory over Minnesota on Homecoming.
ALSO THIS WEEK
November 4, 1998 ELITE COMPANY: UW junior Matt Downin was unanimously selected the 1998 Big Ten Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Year in a vote by conference coaches. Downin, who won the 1998 Big Ten individual title, was the first Badger to earn the title since Donovan Bergstrom in 1991.
November 7, 2000 FACELIFT: UW Athletic Department officials announced plans for a $99.7 million renovation to Camp Randall Stadium to begin following the 2001 football season and be completed prior to the 2004 season.
