TEAM OUTLOOK The Sun Devils are in another transition season, adjusting to their third coach in three years. Head coach Sanja Tomasevic comes in to Tempe after spending a season as an assistant coach at ASU. The Sun Devils are just two years removed from a fourth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and eight letterwinners returning, and added to that 10 newcomers, ASU has the components to improve upon its !ve-win league campaign from a year ago. STRENGTHS » Senior Halle Harker returns as the linchpin to the ASU defense, as well as one of just three starters back this season. She ranks among the all-time greats in Wildcats history with over 1,400 digs to her credit. She ranked in the top-10 in the Pac-12 in digs per set, as well (3.83). » As a junior transfer last season, middle blocker Oluoma Okaro proved herself a force at the net but also the service line, leading the Pac-12 in service aces (0.32 aces per set). She also carried the load in offensive production, leading the team in points per set (3.72) and kills per set (2.80). She will need to take the lead again in 2017. » With such a large incoming class and with ASU coming off a down year, the biggest strength the team has is its coach- ing staff. Tomasevic put together a crew that was successful as players, including herself. She was a professional volleyball player but was also a two-time All-American at Washington leading the Huskies to the 2005 NCAA title and a pair of Pac-10 crowns. CONCERNS » How the Sun Devils respond to a new coaching staff for the second-straight year will be a key to the team's successes. Though Tomasevic is a familiar having served as an assistant coach on last year's staff. Also familiar to the program is the addition of Macey Gardner, a former ASU All-American. » The Sun Devils were at or near the bottom of every statistical category in the Pac-12 last season. In order to see improve- ments this season, how quickly the team takes to the coaching staff's new system will have an impact, considering the large incoming class. TOMASEVIC'S CAREER RECORD Year School Overall Conference Postseason 2017 Arizona State First Season HEAD COACH SANJA TOMASEVIC • Named the program's eighth head coach in team history on Dec. 21, 2016 after serving as interim head coach for ASU's indoor program. • Prior to arriving in Tempe, spent two years at Miami (Fla.), where she helped the Hurricanes reach back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. • A former Pac-10 Player of the year, played eight years professionally and won three league championships, including back-to-back Greek titles with Panathinaikos in 2009 and 2010. • Two-time All-American and 2005 Asics and CVU.com National Player of the Year at Washington, leading the Huskies to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2005 National Championship and a pair of Pac-10 Conference titles. 2017 ARIZONA STATE ROSTER
