As soon as we get to the Big Ten season, it is going to be close matches for five or six weeks straight and that prepares us for dealing with the pressure moments. T he University of Iowa men's tennis squad is 7-1 aer eight challenging matches this spring. e team has knocked off No. 54 Utah, Brigham Young, Yale, and Wichita State. "e season has gone well so far," said UI head coach Ross Wilson. "To be 7-1 at this point is great. e best thing the guys have done is compete in every match. Even when we're not playing our best, we hang around and good things happen." Junior Dominic Patrick has come on of late and he is currently 5-0 in singles. Patrick was a No. 5 position player for the Hawkeyes last season; this spring he has been playing a majority of the time at No. 2. "Patrick is a guy who has surprised us, being unbeaten at the No. 2 spot," said Wilson. "We hope he can keep improving and winning." Iowa has been led by senior Matt Hagan who is ranked 98th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Hagan provides the veteran leadership, but the youth of the Hawkeyes have stepped up and produced so far in the spring. Jake Jacoby is 6-2 in singles competition and won the match that clinched the win against Brigham Young. With the match tied 3-3, it came down to the freshman. Josh Silverstein is also 6-2 in singles and he, too, has provided a match-winner for Iowa.
