HEAD COACH DAVID RUBIO • Begins his 23rd season at Arizona where he has led the Wildcats to 11 20-win seasons and 15 NCAA Tournament appearances. • Honored as Coach of the Year by ASICS/Volleyball Magazine during the 2001 campaign, guiding Arizona to its first-ever national semifinal appearance. • Pac-10 Coach of the Year in 2000, leading UA to its first Pac-10 title. • Leads all active Conference coaches with 212 Pac-12 victories. • Guided Arizona from a winless league record in 1991 to the NCAA West Regionals in 1993. Named 1993 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) West Region Coach of the Year. TEAM OUTLOOK The Wildcats made it back to the NCAA Tournament, recording the most victories since 2005 with 21 on the year and advanced to the second round before falling to eighth-ranked San Diego. Arizona returns five of its six starters and welcomes plenty of incoming talent to potentially make a deeper run in the postseason this year under head coach David Rubio, who enters his 23rd season in Tucson. STRENGTHS » Arizona returns three of its top-five scorers in seniors Madi Kingdon (pictured) and Taylor Arizobal, and junior Halli Amaro. The three combined for 7.90 kills per set, led by Kingdon's 508 kills, the third most in the Pac-12 last year. An honorable menition AVCA All-American and first-team AVCA All-Pacific South Region selection, Kingdon led the squad in points per set for the third-consecutive season, recording a 5.15 average that also led the Conference. » Penina Snuka returns as Arizona's top setter after an impressive collegiate debut averaging 10.14 assists per set, fifth best in the Pac-12. The sophomore started all 34 matches and appeared in all 118 sets in her freshman campaign, also contributing defensively with 339 digs, the third most on the squad. She earned honorable mention AVCA All-Pacific South Region accolades, as well as Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honors. » Defensively, Amaro returns with a strong presence at the net after recording the second most blocks on the roster with 111 on the year, 21 of which were solo blocks. Along with Arizobal's 87 total blocks, the Cats will continue to be a threat at the net. CONCERNS » UA will have big shoes to fill at libero after the departure of Candace Nicholson. Nicholson led the team in digs with 512, over 100 more than the next nearest total on the team. Potential replacements include sophomore Laura Larson, who saw action in 107 sets and recorded 80 digs as a freshman last season. » Despite holding opponents to just a .176 attack percentage, the second best in the league, the Wildcats struggled with their own attack percentage, hitting at a .214 clip which was 11th in the Conference. 2014 ARIZONA ROSTER ARIZONA WILDCATS
