With every team ranked between 12th and 19th in the country taking part in the event, along with another 10 crews receiving votes in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, a lot of crews that might be on the bubble come NCAA selection time will get a chance to state their case for inclusion into the 22-team field. Wisconsin enters the week- end ranked No. 15, so among the better-thought-of crews taking part. A strong perfor- mance would go a long way to getting UW to its 10th NCAA championship in 11 seasons. BOSTON RETURN ● A year ago at this time, the UW wom- en's lightweight rowing program can- celled a trip to Boston for the Boston Round Robin. It was days after the Boston Marathon bombing and the unknown surrounding the safety of UW's travel party was too much to overcome. This year, the event is scheduled for the weekend before the marathon, so the lightweights will get their toughest test of the season with teams like No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Rad- cliffe, No. 4 Boston University and No. 7 MIT among the crews sixth-ranked Wisconsin will have to deal with on the Charles River. BADGER CHALLENGE WINNERS ● The women's rowing team, along with football, was honored as the "Bad- ger Challenge" winner at this week's Buckinghams. Rowing was honored as the women's team that exemplified commitment to developing the whole student-athlete thanks to a long list of high-achieving student-athletes in the classroom who also succeed on the water and give back to the community. Between the women's rowing and football teams, student-athletes com- bined for more than 3,200 community service hours. "This was a big goal for us and I'm really proud," said head coach Bebe Bryans.
