MARCH 28, 1981: Sophomore goaltender Marc Behrend made 30 saves on his way
to his first of two NCAA tournament MVP awards as Wisconsin beat Minnesota 6-3 at
the DECC in Duluth, Minn., to win the third NCAA men's hockey title in school history.
BRING ON BO
MARCH 29, 2001: After announcing on March 19 that Brad Soderberg would not
be retained, UW Director of Athletics Pat Richter hired William "Bo" Ryan from UW-
Milwaukee as the 15th head coach in the history of the Wisconsin men's basketball
program.
REWARDED IN THE RANKINGS
APRIL 1, 2013: A hot start placed the softball team in the national rankings for the
first time since 2002, with the Badgers checking in at No. 25 in the USA Today/NFCA
Division I Poll and making its debut in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25
at No. 23.
A CINDERELLA STORY
MARCH 29, 1941: The "Cinderella" Badgers, lower division finishers in the Big Ten just one
year earlier, topped Washington State, 39-34, to win the NCAA men's basketball champion-
ship. UW's John Kotz was named tournament MVP, while team captain Gene Englund was
the Big Ten MVP and earned All-America honors.
