56 // VARSITY March 20, 2014 INSIDE WOMEN'S HOCKEY Back to the Frozen Four: UW looks for fifth title Badgers travel to Hamden, Conn., for semifinal BY AJ HARRISON @BADGERWHOCKEY A fter a thrilling victory over Harvard last Sat- urday, the Badgers punched their ticket for the 2014 NCAA Frozen Four in Hamden, Conn., marking the seventh time in program his- tory UW will compete in the Frozen Four. For the senior class, it marks the third time the Bad- gers have made to the Frozen Four during their careers and they look to end their careers the same way they started: by winning a national champion- ship. "I'm exicted to be back in the Frozen Four," redshirt ju- nior Brittany Ammerman, said. "It is not easy. It is a long road and season. You have to be consistent and play well in the playoffs. "It's not easy to get there, but it's ev- eryone's goals here at the University of Wisconsin." For the freshmen and sophonores, it marks the first time they will compete in the Frozen Four, but many, including freshman Sydney McKibbon, are being mentored by the upperclassmen on what to expect this weekend. "The juniors and seniors have been telling us how great it is to compete at the Frozen Four," McKibbon said. "Their advice is to keep it simple, stay calm and keep your emotions in check." Wisconsin head coach Mark Johnson is looking forward to the challenge that the Frozen Four presents. "We get time now to prepare to come out and play our best game of the sea- son," Johnson said. If you do that for three periods, then you have a chance to play again on Sunday."
