Back to Bemidji: UW heads
north for WCHA Final Face-Off
Badgers face North Dakota in semifinals
BY AJ HARRISON @BADGERWHOCKEY
A
fter it's first three game
series in over a decade,
No. 2 Wisconsin will
head back to Bemidji, Minn.,
for the 2014 WCHA Final Face-
Off at the Sanford Center on
Friday and Saturday.
The Badgers will face No. 9
North Dakota on Friday in a
4:07 p.m. contest, which hap-
pens to b a rematch of last
year's WCHA Final Face-Off
semifinal matchup where UND
defeat Wisconsin, 1-0.
This year's series against
North Dakota has been very
close, with UW holding a 2-1-1
record against UND. Wiscon-
sin head coach Mark Johnson
expects a hard fought game.
"It's an opportunity, as I told
our team that it's fun and it's
enjoyable and it's competi-
tive," Johnson said. "It will be
a challenge for our team, and it certainly
is going to be a very entertaining hockey,
because for both teams there's things
still at stake."
A Wisconsin win on Friday would
most likely end North Dakota's season,
something that UND did last year to Wis-
consin in the league tournament. In ad-
dition, a Badger triumph would solidify
UW's chances of hosting an NCAA quar-
terfinal game, something UW hasn't done
at LaBahn Arena.
The winner of the semifinal game
moves onto play the winner of Minne-
sota/Minnesota Duluth on Saturday in a
7 p.m. clash.
AMMERMAN NAMED TOP-10 PATTY
KAZ FINALIST
● Brittany Ammerman has been named
a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmai-
er Memorial Award as the junior leads
UW in scoring with 22 goals this year.
Ammerman has tallied 99 points
in her career, leaving her just a point
away from being the 19th UW player
to reach the 100-point mark.
A gender and women's studies ma-
jor, Ammerman took a month-long
trip to Africa last summer with Health
by Motorbike, an organization dedi-
cated to supplying health camps to
women.
The nomination marks the fourth
consecutive year in which a Badger
has been named a top-10 finalist.
