50 // VARSITY February 27, 2014 INSIDE MEN'S BASKETBALL Road show: UW proving they can win, anywhere Badgers have earned 10 wins away from home BY PATRICK HERB @BADGERMBB U nder Bo Ryan, Wiscon- sin is renowned for its incredible home re- cord, but the Badgers have also enjoyed remarkable suc- cess on the road. Wisconsin owns a 10-2 mark away from the Kohl Center this season, going 3-0 in neutral site games and 7-2 in true road venues. With two roads games re- maining on the schedule, UW will look to become the first team in school history to earn 11 or more wins away from home in a single season. To put UW's road success into perspective with the rest of the league, no team in the Big Ten has more true road wins than Wisconsin. UW has also secured a pair of critical road wins during its current six-game win streak. The Badgers earned victo- ries at No. 15 Michigan and No. 15 Iowa, marking the first time in school history that Wisconsin has recorded consecutive road wins over ranked Big Ten teams. Wisconsin's road show has also ex- tended beyond the boundaries of the Big Ten. If the season ended today, the Bad- gers would have earned wins over five conference champions: Virginia (ACC), Florida (SEC), Saint Louis (Atlantic-10), Green Bay (Horizon League) and Michi- gan (Big Ten), with four of those five wins coming away from home. Along those same lines, Wisconsin has dominated teams that have done con- siderably well at home this season. Vir- ginia (13-2), Michigan (11-2), Iowa (12- 3), Purdue (12-3) and Green Bay (12-2) have a combined home record of 60-12. UW is responsible for 5 of those 12 loss- es. Since Bo Ryan was hired in 2001, Wis- consin has been the Big Ten's best road team, owning the most true road wins (74) and best road win percentage (.521) in the conference. Ryan credits preparation and confi- dence as the hallmarks to his squads' road success. "We've been a decent road team year in, year out," Ryan said. "So I don't see our guys going on the road and not feel- ing that they can get it done. "It's a state of mind. It's how you pre- pare. And if you believe, then you have a chance." SCHEDULE (23-5, 10-5) LOOKING BACK Feb. 22 at #15 Iowa W, 79-74 Tuesday Indiana W, 69-58 COMING UP Sunday at Penn State 11 a.m. March 5 Purdue 8 p.m.
