//73 PAC-12 CONFERENCE // 2014 PAC-12 BASEBALL MEDIA GUIDE // 73 PAC-12 CONFERENCE A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student- athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athlet- ics and leadership. Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year. In 2009, the Pac-12 renamed the award the Tom Hansen Conference Medal in honor of Hansen, who retired at the end of June 2009 after serving for 26 years as Commissioner of the Pac-10. STANFORD won its 19th consecutive cup after claiming a national championship in women's tennis and top-four finishes in women's cross country, women's soccer, men's gymnastics and women's water polo, accumulating an impressive 1,261.25 points. With its baseball national title earned earlier this week, UCLA moved up to finish third (1,227.25 points) for the second straight year. In addition to the baseball crown, the Bruins posted top-four finishes in six other sports - men's and women's water polo, men's and women's tennis, women's gymnastics and women's golf. USC placed 14th overall with 945.00 points after sweeping the men's and women's water polo titles. OR- EGON placed 15th with 929.75 points after picking up a pair of NCAA titles in women's cross country and women's indoor track and field. Five top-four finishes helped CALI- FORNIA to finish 17th (858.83), while ARIZONA STATE and ARIZONA rounded out the top 25, finishing 18th (852.08) and 23rd (786.58), respectively. WASHINGTON finished 28th with 716.08 points, COLORADO was 56th over- all (418.00, followed by OREGON STATE (69th, 319.50), UTAH (77th, 261.25) and WASHINGTON STATE (tied 192nd, 73.00). The success of the Pac-12 in the Directors' Cup was bolstered by the capturing of eight NCAA titles, most among all conferences. In addition, 10 Pac-12 league mem- bers finished among the top four in 22 NCAA championships, while the Big Ten was next with its league members placing among the top four in 18 NCAA championships. The Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.
