CARLINI, NELSON HONORED
● Lauren Carlini was named the 2013
Big Ten Freshman of the Year and
also earned All-Big Ten honors. The
6-foot-2 setter was also named to the
Big Ten All-Freshman team and was
joined on the rookie team by teammate Haleigh Nelson.
Carlini is just the second UW freshman named to the All-Big Ten team
and is the third Badger to be named
Big Ten Freshman of the Year. She is
also the first All-Big Ten pick for Wisconsin since 2007.
Carlini and Nelson bring Wisconsin's total members on the Big Ten
All-Freshman team to 15 and mark
just the third time that UW has had
two members on the rookie team in
the same season.
Nelson, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker,
leads Wisconsin with a .326 hitting
percentage and 1.10 blocks per set.
She ranks sixth in the Big Ten in hitting and seventh in blocks. The Cary,
N.C., native has double-figure kills in
seven matches this season, including
the last three matches.
