In-state matchups offer
unique experience
All three divisions will be on the mat Friday
look at the Badgers'
schedule might have
some people wondering what a Division II and Division III opponent is doing
on a Big Ten wrestling team's
list of foes. This season, UW's
schedule includes a pair of UW
schools and for head coach
Barry Davis the matchups are
a well-planned approach at
growing the sport locally.

"You see it in basketball,
they play other UW schools,
travel to Green Bay," said Davis.
"We are the only DI wrestling
program in the state, it helps
in state schools and brings notoriety to them and their fans.
It shows that we are all trying
to work together and support
each other.
Wisconsin is 42-1-1 all-time

The Badgers will match up with UWParkside for the first time in program
history, before taking the mat against
UW-Whitewater.
Both programs will put formidable
opponents on the mat and the Badgers
can't afford to look past either team.
"You've got to realize that when I wrestled there were over 200 Division I programs, now there are less than 100," said
Davis. "You've got the same, if not more,
amount of kids that compete, but less DI
programs. Those kids have to go somewhere. There are better kids going to DII
or DIII programs. There are going to be
good kids there, only so many kids can
go to Division I schools. Now the quality
of the athlete in those other divisions is
a lot higher, so we are going to have to be
ready to go."
PERFECT START
● UW opened its season on the road,
traveling to UTC and the Hokie Duals last week and five guys returned
home unbeaten. Tyler Graff, Isaac Jordan, and Connor Medbery each posted
perfect 5-0 records, while Ryan Taylor
finished the weekend 3-0 and Ben Cox
went 2-0.
GRAPPLING WITH HISTORY
● Tyler Graff's .836 winning percentage
(102-20) is 10th on the UW career list.
He is also 11 wins away from earning
a spot on the career win record list.
