The five teams in the NCAA Tournament represented the most by the Pac-12 since six participated in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. With ARIZONA and OREGON advancing to the Sweet 16, it marked the first time the league placed two teams in the regional semifinals since 2008. In one of the closest league races in years, UCLA captured its 31st regular season Conference title, and first since the 2008 season. The Bruins are just the third Conference champion to post a 13-5 league record under the 18-game league schedule in 35 seasons of Pac-10/ Pac-12 competition. After 11 years in Los Angeles, the Pac-12 moved its championship to Las Vegas where the MGM Grand Garden Arena played host to the league's postseason tournament... Similar to the regular season where 57 of 108 league games were decided by single digits, the 11-game Pac-12 Tournament provided eight games decided by single digits, including a tournament record three overtime games... OREGON won its third Pac-12 Tournament title, and first since 2007. The Ducks were the fifth different league school to capture the postseason crown over the last six years. Earning All-America recognition for their efforts during the 2012-13 season were CALIFORNIA junior G Allen Crabbe (NABC Third Team), and UCLA freshman G/F Shabazz Muhammad (Sporting News Second Team, USBWA All-Freshman First Team). Crabbe (18.4 ppg/6.1 rpg) was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year, becoming the third California player in the last four years to earn the honor... Muhammad (17.9 ppg) and ARIZONA STATE freshman G Jahii Carson (18.5 ppg/5.1 apg) shared Pac-12 Co-Freshman of the Year honors. Carson was the nation's top freshman scorer... COLORADO junior F André Roberson was tabbed the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 11.2 rebounds per game (second in the nation). He also added 2.2 steals per game (2nd in Pac-12) and 1.3 blocked shots per game (8th in Pac-12)... STANFORD junior F Dwight Powell was named the Pac-12's Most Improved Player. During the 2012 season, he averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds. He boosted those numbers during the 2013 season to 14.9 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game... OREGON coach Dana Altman was tabbed as the John R. Wooden Pac-12 Coach of the Year, as well as picking up NABC District 20 Coach of the Year honors, as he guided the Ducks to their third consecutive 20-win season, a Pac-12 Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 where they lost to eventual NCAA champion Louisville... ARIZONA STATE senior G/F Carrick Fellix, who earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors, was named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Felix graduated with a B.S. in Communications in the spring of 2012 and was accepted into the Masters of Liberal Studies program where he is studying for his masters degree. 42 // 2013-14 PAC-12 MEN'S BASKETBALL MEDIA GUIDE // REVIEW CALIFORNIA's Allen Crabbe was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year after leading the Golden Bears to their fourth 20-win season in five years. He averaged 18.4 points and 6.1 rebounds in 2012-13 and became the third different Cal player to earn the honor over the last four years.
