WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS TEAM OUTLOOK COUGAR FACTS The Cougars had only two losses in preseason play, posting three-straight tournament sweeps with a nine-game win streak before the Conference slate began. Washington State finished last in the Pac-12 with three victories which came in the final eight matches of the season. Head coach Jen Greeny looks to lead the Cougars to a stronger finish with a squad led by seniors Marcelina Glab and Camryn Irwin, and bolstered by the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the nation including three high school all-Americans. Harris averaged 3.91 kills over the year, 10th overall in the Pac-12, and also contributed defensively with 286 digs. SR S Camryn Irwin returns for her third season starting at setter. After recording 10.18 assists average last year, seventh in the Conference, Irwin currently stands at sixth all-time for the Cougars in career assists with 2,323. Her leadership and ability to call the shots as setter will be an invaluable asset to the underclassmen on the team. SR MH Marcelina Glab and JR MB Ver'Leea Hardaway look to continue their leadership defensively. The two were third and fourth, respectively, in scoring for the Cougars and led the team in blocks, combining for 242 of the team's 277.0 total blocks. SO L Kate Sommer steps into the starting libero position for the second year after as the only freshman on the team last year. Sommer was sixth in the Pac-12 in digs per set with 4.06. CONCERNS » Greeny will need to integrate a highly-touted and talented group of six freshmen with the returning Cougar letterwinners in order to craft a winning team for the 2013 season. Having seven players who will be in their third year in the Greeny system of play will provide additional leadership to the freshman class. Generating more offensive opportunities is a priority for the Cougars while continuing to improve defensively. With added height in the lineup and added depth at most positions, WSU looks to build a cohesive squad that can compete regardless of the mix of experience levels on the court. 2013 WASHINGTON STATE ROSTER NO. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 10 11 12 14 15 17 20 22 NAME Shawna Lum Kate Sommer Stephanie Logan * Bekah Young Jaicee Harris Taylor Ellingsen Emmy Allen Marcelina Glab Camryn Irwin Chelsey Bettinson Hayley MacDonald Ver'Leea Hardaway Tani Stephens Hailey Bethune Kyra Holt SERVICE Career: Season: Match: ACES 143 LaToya Harris, 1999-2002 68 Nancy Lust, 1980 7 Maggy Robinson vs. Washington, 1981 YR JR SO SO JR JR FR FR SR SR JR FR JR FR FR FR EXP 2V 1V 1V TR 2V HS HS 3V 2V 2V HS 2V HS HS HS HOMETOWN/HIGH SCHOOL (LAST SCHOOL) Westchester, Calif./El Segundo HS Pacific Palisades, Calif./Lighthouse Christian Academy Pullman, Wash./Pullman HS Federal Way, Wash./Beamer HS (Highline CC) Chelan, Wash./Chelan HS Spokane, Wash./Mead HS Mill Creek, Wash./Jackson HS Watertown, South Dakota/Watertown HS Brush Prairie, Wash./Prairie HS (Oregon) Richland, Wash./Richland HS Bothell, Wash./Jackson HS Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo HS Albany, Ore./West Albany HS Stockton, Calif./Lincoln HS Hercules, Calif./Albany HS HEAD COACH JEN GREENY • Prior to joining the Cougars, spent four seasons as head coach of Lewis-Clark State College, leading the team to four-straight Frontier Conference regular-season crowns, including an undefeated league record in 2010, and four-straight conference tournament titles. • Four-time Frontier Conference Coach of the Year and the 2010 AVCA Northwest Region Coach of the Year. • A graduate of WSU, she led the Cougars to a No. 5 national ranking in 1995 and the NCAA Regional Finals in 1996, and the regional finals as an assistant in 2002.
