A Winning Athletic Program F rom conference championships to capacity crowds, the 2012-13 season was another successful year for the University of Wisconsin athletic department. The Badgers finished 29th in the NACDA Directors' Cup Rankings, its 17th top-30 finish in the last 20 years. In all, the Badgers claimed five conference championships, advanced 16 teams to post-season play and had seven teams rank among the top-25 nationally in attendance. Coach of the Year Mick Byrne—Men's Cross Country USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Big Ten Coach of the Year Ed Nuttycombe—Men's Outdoor Track USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Big Ten Indoor Coach of the Year The men's hockey team used five consecutive WCHA playoff victories to claim the 2013 WCHA Final Five championship. "Each Badger home game feels more like a family reunion. Madison is the winner of America's best college football town." — USA Today Bo Ryan—Men's Basketball Big Ten Coach of the Year Prior to his retirement in June, Ed Nuttycombe guided the Badgers to the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championship, earning Big Ten and Regional Coach of the Year honors. En route to a school-record 44 wins on the season, the Wisconsin softball team won t Tournament championship.
