OUR Goals In line with the State of Colorado, we adopted the following goals to "Green the Banks" by 2012: reduction in energy use reduction in paper use reduction in water reduction in courier fleet fuel (reduction targets are measured against baseline year 2006) Alpine Bank's goal for energy reduction was set with a 6-year time frame, using 2006 data as the baseline, and end-of-year 2012 for completion. We have tracked resource consumption – i.e. natural gas in therms, electricity in kilowatt hours (kwh), and water in gallons – for all of our locations since 2006. For locations that opened after 2006, we have tracked their consumption since opening. We also express the data in EI (Energy Intensity which is a number that represents energy use in BTU's relative to the square footage of a building), gallons of water, lbs. of CO2 emitted, and comparative percentages of consumption month over month and year over year. The overall cost of a resource and the unit cost of each resource are also tracked. Water Use (Gallons x 1,000,000) 15 10 11.7 11.2 9.1 5 10.5 7.7 8.7 8.8 7.2 5.24 0 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 10% Goal 2012 25% Goal 2012 Actual We began the water reduction program with an initial reduction goal of 10%. We discovered that irrigation water was where we should concentrate since outdoor water use was many times higher than indoor consumption. Once we became serious about appropriate irrigation use, we learned that it was easy to reduce well past the 10% goal so we increased the goal to 25%. By year's end 2011, we had reduced water use by 55% and our landscaping never looked better. For the year 2012, water use increased for the second time in the past six years. We finished 2012 with an overall 6-year water reduction of 39%. 2012 was undoubtedly a hot and dry summer season but we often overcompensate as was the case in 2012. 2013 is tracking to be another hot and dry season, but we hope to monitor the irrigation water consumption closer and reduce beyond the 2012 season. 3 www.alpinebank.com
