WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS A QUICK LOOK AT THE COUGARS OFFENSE: The Cougars return seven starters from an offensive unit that led the Pac-12 and ranked ninth in the FBS with 330.4 passing yards per game in 2012. Redshirt junior QB Connor Halliday a fivegame starter in 2012, is coming off a season in which he threw for 1,874 yards (208.2 ypg) and 15 touchdowns. Halliday returns his top three receivers in Brett Bartolone, Gabe Marks and Isiah Myers, all of whom hauled in more than 40 passes each last year. He also has a deep threat in sophomore Dominique Williams, who averaged 16.1 yards per reception in 2012. Senior PK Andrew Furney, a second team All-Pac-12 performer in 2012, was perfect on field goal attempts from inside 30 yards (7-of-7), while converting six of ten attempts of at least 40 yards. He kicked a 60-yarder against Eastern Washington, the longest successful try in the Pac-12 last season. DEFENSE: The defense also returns eight starters from last season, including second team All-Pac-12 safety Deone Bucannon who racked up a team-high 106 tackles in 2012. He leads a secondary that should be significantly improved over last season, when it allowed 262.7 yards per game through the air. Redshirt seniors Casey Locker (60 tackles/ 1 INT) and Anthony Carpenter (48 tackles/2.5 TFL/1 INT) add veteran leadership to one of the team's more experienced units. Sophomore LB Darryl Monroe ranked second on the team with 80 tackles last season. Monroe, senior Justin Sagote (61 tackles) and junior Cyrus Coen (60 tackles) bring plenty of experience to a relatively young group of linebackers. THE SCHEDULE: The Cougs open up the season with a pair of challenging road contests at Auburn and at USC. The Seattle Game at CenturyLink Field, WSU's annual trek across the State for one game, will be against defending Pac-12 champ Stanford. 2012 RESUL TS (3-9, 1-8 in Pac-12 North, 6th) L............ 6-30................. at BYU W.......... 24-20...............
