The last time the University of Iowa men's basketball team began a season ranked in the top 10
was 2001 when Luke Recker (pictured) and Reggie Evans led the Hawkeyes to a No. 9 preseason
ranking. Iowa began the 2020-21 season ranked No. 5 in The Associated Press poll and No. 6 in
the USA Today Coaches' Poll — the third-highest ranking in school history. The Hawkeyes began the
1954-55 and 1955-56 seasons at No. 4.
