West Springfield . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .260 Wells Fargo Cup Cup of Excellence Schools earn Wells Fargo Cups as year's best The Wells Fargo Cup represents the best Virginia high schools have to offer in athle6c and academic ac6vi6es. First awarded in 1990, the Wells Fargo Cup rep- resents 26 years of excellence. Cups are presented, one for academic ac6vi6es and one for athle6cs in each of the VHSL's six enrollment classifica6ons. The Wells Fargo Cup goes to the school in each group classifica6on that has achieved the best overall record in VHSL state-level compe66on in 27 sports and 12 academic ac6vi6es – the state champions' state champion. Winners of the Wells Fargo Cup are determined by a point system based on performance in VHSL state compe66ons. Points are awarded for all sanc6oned sports, plus sportsmanship, and schools can earn academic ac6vity points for out- standing par6cipa6on in scholas6c bowl, crea6ve wri6ng, theatre, forensics, de- bate, film fes6val, broadcast, newspaper, yearbook and magazine. The athle6c and academic winners are recognized each fall as part of VHSL Day at a University of Virginia football game.
