The Cardinal scored 415.222 points to knock off four-time defending champion Oklahoma, 414.556. College Gymnastics Association Rookie of the Year and MPSF Gymnast of the Year Brody Malone became the !rst Stanford gymnast to win three individual titles in one championship meet, claiming the "oor exercise, high bar and all-around. With its win, Stanford continued its streak of top-!ve !nishes at the national championship meet dating back to 2006. Stanford and CALIFORNIA !nished second and third, respectively, behind Oklahoma at the MPSF Championships. Golden Bears' Darren Wong and Aaron Mah advanced to the NCAA Championships !nals in the all-around competition and !nished as top-15 competitors nationally. MEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD STANFORD tied for fourth place with 30 points at the NCAA Championships for its highest !nish since 2007 and most points since 2000. COLORADO, USC and OREGON all placed in the top-20 going Nos. 16, 17, 18, respectively. Harrison Williams recorded Stanford's !rst NCAA indoor track and !eld championship in !ve years by capturing the heptathlon with a school-record performance of 6,042 points. UCLA !nished second at the MPSF Championships trailed by CALIFORNIA, OREGON and USC in a tie for third place. USC junior Isaiah Jewett ran for USC's !rst-place 4x400-meter relay (3:06.40) that broke a 14-year-old conference and facility record. Jewett is the third-straight Trojan to earn Men's MPSF Athlete of the Meet (Rai Benjamin-2018; Randall Cunningham-2017). WOMEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD Two Pac-12 teams !nished in the top-three at the NCAA Championship led by national runners-up USC and OREGON in third place followed by STANFORD tied for 12th. A trio of Trojans won individual national titles as Twanisha Terry won the 60-meter dash, Kaelin Roberts won the 400m and Chanel Brissett claimed the 60m hurdles. Oregon won the women's distance medley relay title and Jessica Hull claimed the 3,000m crown. ARIZONA STATE's Samantha Noennig claimed the shot put national title. USC won its !fth MPSF Championship title in just six years with the conference by an incredible 52.5-point margin after sweeping the sprint championships. USC head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert earned her seventh MPSF Coach of the Year award and !fth on the women's side while senior Dior Hall became the third Trojan to earn Athlete of the MPSF Championships meet honors. MEN'S VOLLEYBALL USC earned its !rst bid to the NCAA Tournament since 2012 and more than doubled its win total from 2018 by going 18-11 overall (most wins since 2015) and !nishing third in the MPSF at 7-5 (highest league !nish since 2012). The Trojans, playing the nation's toughest schedule, had seven wins over teams ranked in the AVCA top 10 at the time and won 11 of their last 15 matches. UCLA claimed two spots on the AVCA All- America !rst team, with Daenan Gyimah earning his second-straight !rst team honor and Micah Ma'a earning his third-straight !rst team honor, while USC's Jack Wyatt garnered second team recognition. MEN'S WATER POLO USC capped the 2018 season with its 10th all-time NCAA title in the sport, defeating Stanford, 14-12, in the championship match. A Pac-12 school has won the NCAA title every year since 1998 and has claimed the crown in all but !ve years since the championship was !rst contested in 1969. With the Trojans and Cardinal competing in the championship match also marks the !fth-straight year of an All-Pac-12 title game. Stanford sophomore Ben Hallock was named the MPSF Player of the Year and Cardinal head coach John Vargas was voted the MPSF Coach of the Year, while USC freshman Hannes Daube was tabbed the MPSF Newcomer of the Year. Hallock was also tabbed the national player of the year, earning the Peter J. Cutino Award. WOMEN'S WATER POLO No. 2-seed STANFORD won its seventh all-time NCAA title with a thrilling 9-8 victory over defending champion and top-seeded USC. A Pac-12 institution has claimed the national crown every year since the NCAA began sponsoring the championship in 2001. The championship match has been a battle between two Pac-12 schools every year except 2004. USC won its sixth-straight MPSF title with a 9-8 sudden-death victory over the Cardinal to earn the NCAA automatic bid. Stanford swept the MPSF postseason awards with junior Makenzie Fischer earning Player of the Year honors, Ryann Neushul named Newcomer of the Year, and Cardinal coach John Tanner winning his sixth Coach of the Year award. Stanford's Fischer, a three-time ACWPC All-American and Olympic gold medalist, was named NCAA Tournament MVP, the Peter J. Cutino Award winner and was selected as the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division I at-large programs. Tanner is the only coach in the nation who has taken his team to every NCAA Tournament since its inception in 2001.
