41 I n only its third season, the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational benefits the University of Iowa women's golf team. e tournament lasts three days, but the team stays in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for a week to train in a warm environment. e 2019 Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational featured 12 teams, but Iowa assistant coach Mike Roters hopes to expand the field to 24 teams in the future. "We hope to make this a premier collegiate golf tournament that will attract teams from across the country," said Roters. "It's a great opportunity to play in a beautiful place."' e Hawkeyes finished 10th at this year's tournament. Senior Kristin Glesne led Iowa aer recording a personal-best 18-hole score of 68 (-4) in the third round to tie for 26th. Glesne climbed 25 spots on the leaderboard during the third round and the junior finished the event tied for 42nd. "It's nice to train in Mexico before the tournament starts because we get to play the course several times," said Glesne. "Every year this trip is so fun because we grow so much and come together like a family. is team has been amazing and I couldn't ask for a better group to spend my senior year with." e Hawkeye lineup is led by seniors Shawn Rennegarbe and Kristin Glesne. But, Iowa's lineup also features strong freshman and sophomore classes. Freshman Manuela Lizarazu has been Iowa's No. 1 golfer going into most competitions. In February, Lizarazu carded a season-best, three- round score of 218 (+2) to tie for 35th at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Arizona. "My goal for the end of the season is to keep improving my confidence and commitment in every single shot. It's important to be positive with every outcome," said Lizarazu. "I feel like I have grown as a player a lot this spring because I learn about my strengths and weaknesses every day." Lizarazu tied for 33rd at the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invite from March 21-23. She carded five birdies in the second round to finish 4-over-par. Besides Lizarazu, freshman Dana Lerner is also playing at a high level. Sophomores Brett Permann and Stephanie Herzog have also been playing well for the Hawkeyes. e Hawkeyes travel to Athens, Georgia, on April 11-13 to close out the regular season in April.
