He is the NCAA softball leader in wins as a Division I head coach (1,563), and second winningest coach in history (.794). Guided Team USA to the gold medal at the 2004 Olympics and a silver at the 2008 Olympics. In 2017, Candrea won his 1,500th career game, becoming the fastest coach in NCAA history, any sport, any level, to win 1,500 games. Only five coaches in any sport have more Division I victories than Candrea. Named NFCA Coach of the Year in 1994, 1996 and 1997, and was inducted into the NFCA Hall of Fame in 1996.
