COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Citizens for Clean Air Monitors Air Quality In March, Grand Junction-based Citizens for Clean Air (CCA) launched a regional air quality monitoring program, and by July CCA had deployed more than 30 low-cost air monitors. The PurpleAir monitors manufactured in Utah measure particulates of PM10 and PM2.5 and smaller. The data generated correlates closely with equipment used by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE). In contrast to the past when a single very expensive EPA-approved particulate monitor in downtown Grand Junction was the only one serving the Grand Valley, monitors are now in place from Mack to Palisade and from northern Grand Junction to Whitewater. Anyone with computer access can go to purpleair.com, pull up the map of Mesa County and see what's in the air where they live, work and play. CCA has relied on Grand Valley residents to host many of the monitors in this year's new air monitoring program, and Alpine Bank is proud to serve as part of this partnership, placing monitors at each of the bank's ve Mesa County locations. "Supporting the monitoring project through our bank branches has been a great t," said David Miller, Alpine Bank senior vice president, who also hosts a monitor at his home. "As an employee-owned Colorado community bank, we're committed to help provide needed data to inform decisions that will positively aect the health and welfare of our employees, our customers and our community. CCA has done a remarkable job. " "Even short-term exposure to high levels of particulates can cause health problems, especially for children and the elderly, and those who suer from respiratory and other ailments," said CCA Chair Karen Sjoberg. "CCA was formed as a grassroots community group in 2013 to raise awareness of air quality issues and to work toward improving the air in the Grand Valley." A home monitor in Mesa County Colorado. Small particulate monitor that produces big results.
