Badgers still looking for
first Big Ten victory
UW stays in games but can't hold on for wins
I
n their last three games,
the Badgers have led
their Big Ten opponents but
haven't been able to hang on
for the win.
Wisconsin led Minnesota
on Jan. 6 by three points in
the middle of the first half but
lost 60-55. UW led Iowa early
in the second half on Jan. 10
but failed to score for more

than eight minutes, allowing
the Hawkeyes to win.
Wisconsin also led Michigan at halftime on Sunday
but the Wolverines went on
a 7-0 run to take a lead they
wouldn't relinquish.
"It's been tough for us,"
said head coach Bobbie
Kelsey. "We're just going to
keep working. We're right
there in some of these games. The last
three games, we were right there, but
that's youth and inexperience."
The Badgers are in a tough stretch
of their schedule, playing five of six
games against teams that are ranked
or receive votes in the national polls.
The stretch started on Jan. 10 with
Iowa and continued at Michigan last
Sunday, two teams that receive votes
in the polls. UW travels to No. 8 Penn
State on Thursday before returning
home on Sunday to face Ohio State,
the stretch's only unranked team. The
run wraps up as the Badgers take on
Iowa and Penn State again on Jan. 24
and Jan. 31, respectively.
"... just winning one, just getting
one under your belt, being so close, I
think it would boost our ... morale,"
said Kelsey. "I keep telling them, just
work hard, do what you're supposed
to do, follow the game plan, and it will
happen."
