3 FALL 2018 • VOLUME 8.1 COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY University Hosts Colorado Gubernatorial Debate Colorado Mesa University, Rocky Mountain PBS and The Daily Sentinel delivered the gubernatorial Rural Colorado Debate on October 6. This was the only debate covering only issues that mattered to rural Colorado. The debate between Democrat candidate Jared Polis and Republican candidate Walker Stapleton was broadcasted live across the state on Rocky Mountain PBS and online. Numerous watch parties were hosted throughout the state including a bi-partisan watch party of CMU students. The three organizations felt it was important for Coloradans living in rural areas to hear where candidates stood on issues that directly affected the communities where they live. New Collaboration Between the CMU Theatre Department and the Avalon Theatre for the 2018-19 Season CMU Theatre is partnering with the Avalon Theatre in downtown Grand Junction to enrich the theatre- going experience for the 2018-19 season. On Friday, November 2, the Avalon will show the classic film, A Raisin in the Sun starring Sydney Poitier, in order to prepare patrons for CMU's production of Clybourne Park, opening November 8, which was written as a response to A Raisin in the Sun. Then, the Wim Wenders documentary Pina, about the legendary post-modern choreographer Pina Bausch, will play at the Avalon on November 17. This will precede CMU's fall dance concert November 30 and December 1 in order for audience members to learn more about modern choreography. Finally, on February 11 the Avalon will show the original film Reefer Madness along with hosting a panel discussion ahead of the CMU production of the musical satire Reefer Madness, opening February 28, which is based on the film. CMU theatre-goers who purchase a ticket to see a play or dance concert before the date of the corresponding film will receive a discount code in their email for the film. Information about the CMU theatre and dance season may be found at coloradomesa.edu/arts/theatre.
