Five Pac-12 institutions landed at least one Volleyball Magazine FAB 50 recruit. Here's a list of those freshmen who should make significant contributions to Pac-12 volleyball: VOLLEYBALL MAGAZINE Karson Bacon, 6-4, MB, Oregon Holly Campbell, 6-4, MB, Stanford Devon Chang, 5-11, S, UCLA Shannon Crenshaw, 6-2, OH, Washington Dani Cole, 6-3, RS, Washington Chandler Duff, 6-2, MB, Oregon Mackenzie Fidelak, 6-1, S-RS, Stanford Marin Grote, 6-4, MB-OH, Washington Lexi Hadrych, 6-1, OH, UCLA Brooke Nuneviller, 5-11, Libero-OH, Oregon Ella May Powell, 6-0, S, Washington Kylie Robinson, 5-9, S, Oregon Brooklyn Schirmer, 6-1, OH, USC That's a total of 13 FAB 50 recruits, which breaks down to 26 percent of the list. Here's the list by conference: Big Ten ..................................... 20 Pac-12 ................................. 13 SEC ............................................ 8 ACC ............................................ 4 Big 12......................................... 3 Big East ...................................... 1 WCC ........................................... 1 Taylor Mims, Washington State well. Junior Brianna Doehrmann led the team in digs in 2017, a category where the Utes ranked in the top four in the Pac-12. WASHINGTON Washington graduated a class that led the Huskies to two Pac-12 titles and two second-place finishes during their time on campus, winning at least 25 matches each year with two 30-win campaigns. The class included All-Americans and a 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year. And yet, UW is still ranked No. 17 in the country in the preseason. Washington lost Courtney Schwan and Carly DeHoog, but will look to junior Kara Bajema to take on a bigger role. She already led the Huskies in scoring and kills last season as a sophomore, completing the transition from middle blocker to outside hitter which has worked out well for both UW and Bajema. She will be helped by the only senior on the roster in Destiny Julye that has made plenty of contributions to the team's success in her career. Junior Shayne McPherson earned the starting libero job last year and sophomore Lauren Sanders looks to follow up an impressive rookie campaign at middle blocker. Washington also has the talents of the No. 3 recruit- ing class in the nation, plus a transfer. That group is expected to push for playing time, especially at the setter position where head coach Kegan Cook is relying on a freshman and a sophomore with limited experience to direct the offense. WASHINGTON STATE The Cougars are coming off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, the first time that has happened since 2000 and 2001. WSU has the bulk of that team back, with 10 letterwinners returning. Washington state will continue to rely on its presence at the net, with senior Taylor Mims and junior Jocelyn Urias leading the way. The two of them helped the Cougs boast the sixth-best blocking average in the country. Mims is an All-Pac-12 honoree and was named to the preseason all-Conference team as voted on by the coaches. Several of the Cougs spent Alexa Smith, Colorado Kara Bajema, Washington AVCA PRESEASON RANKING 1. STANFORD (43) 1575 2. Nebraska (2) 1525 3. Texas 1389 4. Minnesota 1342 5. Kentucky 1260 6. That exposure and high level of play should help WSU combat what has been strong starts to the season, but have not been able to carry the momentum when league play begins. Washington State has the talent to beat anyone in the country and have come up with marquee wins that have boosted their postseason resume.
