Ped (Pedersen) jokes around that he
probably moves around more before the
play than he does during the play, Wozniak said. Thats a very true possibility just
because of the way we do it (with the presnap juggling) and the way we want to mess
with defenses.
Historically, the Badgers have had success with the hybrid-model at tight end
the H-Back or F-Back or the Motion Back,
whatever the designation. Owen Daniels,
Travis Beckum, Garrett Graham and Lance
Kendricks all flourished in this capacity. All
are in the NFL. Pedersen is in this mold.
Pedersen will often shift across the formation and motion back, which will allow
him to line up as the F-Back or as the Z,
the flanker. I will shift across with the Y
(Wozniak), he said, and actually wrap
back through the formation. I like blocking
when Im able to move and get into space.
Pedersens blocks are an underappreciated element in attacking the perimeter,
especially on the Jet Sweep or Fly Sweep,
whereby a slotback or a wingback or a split
end goes in motion, takes a direct handoff
from the quarterback and attacks the opposite edge of the defense.
Its just a matter of getting on your guy
and blocking him, Pedersen said. A lot of
times we dont have to do too much because

If you look at defenses
when we are trading and
jumping around, they
get confused, and thats
our main goal, Wozniak
said. Were trying to get
the defense thinking,
OK, which way is the
strength?
