MEET YOUR WARHAWKS MEET YOUR WARHAWKS keefer kuhl A diving force photo by Dan Hansher The freshman diver from Kenosha has made an immediate impact for the Warhawk men's swimming and diving program. Currently his season best scores include a 206.70 in one meter, six dives. His best one meter, 11 dives score for the year was 379.45 against Luther College. In October Kuhl was named Warhawk Student-Athlete of the Week, as well as WIAC Athlete of the Week. He earned this honor after leading UW-Whitewater to a 168-125 season opening win over Carthage College. photo by Leah Thyne The senior from Eagan, Minn., has been a key post presence for the Warhawks. As a freshman, Glynn came off the bench for the Warhawks and contributed to the program's fifth WIAC title and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. As a junior, she appeared in all 29 of the Warhawks' games, averaging nearly three rebounds and four points per game. The Warhawks have earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament every season that Glynn has been a member of the squad. steff glynn Family atmosphere leads to success What is your favorite memory or experience in your career as a Warhawk? My favorite memories are our winter trips. It's like going on vacation with 20 of your best friends. We get to play against some new teams and new style of play, which is beneficial for us down the road. Over the course of my career we have gone to Las Vegas, San Diego, Austin and this year New Orleans. What is your favorite part of Warhawk basketball? My favorite part is that we are a family. I think it is pretty rare to have what our program has. Not only are we incredibly close, but our families are really involved with our team. After home games the parents put together a "family dinner" where we all get to eat together, and a lot of them make it to every home game. This is a big part in why our program is successful. Why did you choose UW-Whitewater? I chose UW-Whitewater because I really like the coaching staff and the campus. I felt at home right away. I also have a lot of family that has attended here, so that connection was a big draw for me. Basketball is a long season. Has it been difficult to balance school and basketball? It is a very long season that can be six-plus months long. It is tough early on to figure out the right balance between basketball and school, but once I learned how to manage my time it has been a lot easier. 34 WARHAWK MONTHLY How long have you been diving? I have been diving since my freshman year of high school. I am going into my fifth year of diving. What made you want to start diving? I started diving because of my involvement with gymnastics as a kid. When I went into high school my parents convinced me to try diving to see if I liked it. How has your first year as part of a collegiate swimming and diving team been going? Is it a lot different than high school or club competition? So far I have been having a great time being a part of the UW-Whitewater swimming and diving team. Diving at a college level is basically the same as high school but it took a little getting used to. What are your goals for your first season as a Warhawk? My goal for this year is to break 400 points during an 11-dive meet. Why did you choose UW-Whitewater? I chose UW-Whitewater because it was close enough and far away enough from home and I really enjoyed visiting the school and I'm happy with my choice. 35
