33 W ith the spring slate underway, the Uni- versity of Iowa women's golf team looks to its team captains — juniors Kristin Glesne and Shawn Rennegarbe — for leadership down the stretch. Glesne and Rennegarbe were voted captains by their teammates and coaches this winter. Now, two weeks into the spring season, Iowa head coach Megan Menzel is excited to see all the benefits the duo will bring in the new role. "I am excited about the leadership Shawn and Kristen will provide," said Menzel. "ey both provide a lot on and off the golf course, and the team appreciates their vision and enthusiasm. "ey have different strengths, so it is a good part- nership. eir different personalities will comple- ment each other well." Glesne, a native of San Antonio, Texas, has com- peted in five tournaments this season. She tied with senior Jessica Ip for the most rounds at or below par with four, and is second on the team for the lowest round, 70. Aer competing in 14 rounds, Glesne has a stroke average of 74.9, the third-lowest on the team. In the fall, she set career bests for 18-holes (70), 36-holes (143), 54-holes (218), and finish (tied 28th). "I'm honored to be voted co-captain," said Glesne. "My teammates are all my friends and it makes me happy to know they see me as a leader and look up to me in that way." Rennegarbe, an Addieville, Illinois native, has competed in all five tournaments this season. rough 14 rounds, she has a stroke average of 75.6 and has shot two rounds at or below par. She set career bests in the fall for 18-holes (72), 54-holes (221), and finish (tied 33rd). Her fall scoring average of 75.9 is tied 20th in program his- tory. "I am blessed to have been given this title by my teammates," said Rennegarbe. "I hope I can be someone that everyone feels comfortable com- ing to in time of need and can be a good example daily." When it comes to team leadership, Glesne and Rennegarbe know it is their differences that will allow them to have the biggest impact on the team. "Shawn and I are different people," Glesne said. "ere are things she brings to the table that I can learn from and I think we are great complements." With only three tournaments le until Big Ten Championships, the duo is encouraging their teammates to focus on the positives. "It's important to take positives from every tourna- ment showing in order to move forward and the right attitude into next week," Glesne added. "It is also a big motivation that there are girls staying home every week that are working hard and sup- porting us from home." Glesne and Rennegarbe look to lead the Hawkeyes to a strong season finish in their last three tourna- ments before they head to Cincinnati for the Big Ten Championships on April 20-22.
