The project involves understanding how certain plants in the Family Solanaceae, such as petunias, wild potatoes and wild tomatoes, are able to fight off the plant disease known as late blight (the disease that destroyed potato crops during the Irish Potato Famine). The project is focused on understanding how sugary compounds produced by the plants' leaves help fight off late blight.
